Elder Maxwell’s BREADSTICKS

Elder Maxwell’s BREADSTICKS

Amy Baldaulf shared this recipe with me when we served together at Adam-ondi-Ahman.

(Coleen Maxwell, wife of Neal A. Maxwell)

1 pkg dry yeast

1 ½ c. warm water

1 T. malted milk powder

1 T. honey

1 tsp. salt

4-41/2 c. unsifted flour

Dissolve yeast in warm water. Stir in malted milk powder, honey, and salt. Add flour gradually until dough forms a ball. Turn onto floured board and knead lightly. Divide dough into 12 pieces and shape each one into a long thin rope, 10-12 inches long. Arrange six sticks lengthwise on one large greased baking sheet. Brush tops with melted butter and sprinkle with desired topping (seasoning salt, coarse salt, Parmesan cheese, sesame seeds, or poppy seeds). Allow to rise 15-20 minutes. Bake at 400°F for 15 minutes. Makes 1 dozen long breadsticks or make them half as long and get 2 dozen.
