DUTCH OVEN DUMP CAKE

This is an easy favorite taught to me by the Nies family while serving as a Cub Scout Leader when I assisted in Leadership Training at the District level, called Baloo Training (Basic Leader Outdoor Orientation)
1 (21 ounce) can cherry pie filling
1 (15 ounce) can crushed pineapple
1 (18.25 ounce) package yellow cake mix
8 ounces chopped walnuts
1/2 cup butter
AT HOME: In a 9 x 13 inch pan mix together pie filling and pineapple. Dump dry cake mix evenly over the top. Slice butter and drop pieces on top. Sprinkle walnuts over top. Bake, uncovered at 350 for 35 or 40 minutes or until golden brown. If you want to use a crock pot, cover and bake 4 hours on low or 2 hours on high.
DUTCH OVEN: Mix pie filling and pineapple in a Dutch oven. Sprinkle dry cake mix over pineapple, and cherry mixture stir until just combined. Then sprinkle walnuts over top. Cut butter into slices and place on top. Place dutch oven on coals and place 10 coals on lid. Bake for 1-2 hours. Brush off coals and dust before opening lid.
